The Smartest and Most Playful in the Ocean

Common bottlenose dolphins and other dolphins are thought to be some of the smartest animals on the planet. Dolphins have smooth, rubbery skin and are usually colored in some mixture of black, white, and gray. They have two flippers, or fins, on their sides, as well as a triangular fin on the back. They have an insulating layer of blubber beneath the skin. They are extremely curious and often approach people to investigate. They have well-developed hearing which is adapted for both air and water and is so well developed that some can survive even if they are blind. They generally live in small groups and organize complex, group behaviors when mating and hunting. They travel in herds of 50 to 100 dolphins but have individualized whistles to communicate information regarding their location, condition, and identity with others. Dolphins are not only intelligent but are playful and fun-loving.
