Marmots Are Very Lovable
The marmot is any of 14 species of giant ground squirrels found primarily in North America and Eurasia. Some common species include the yellow-bellied marmot, found in western North America, and the Alpine marmot, found in Europe. They are large and heavy, weighing 7 to 15 lbs. Marmots are well suited for life in cold environments and have small fur-covered ears, short, stocky legs, and strong claws for digging. They inhabit open country in mountains and plains, preferring meadows, tundra, and forest edges. Marmots live in burrows that they excavate, and most mountain species construct burrows beneath boulder fields, rocky slopes, and crevices in cliff faces. Rocks and cliffs also serve as observation sites where they sit upright watching for both terrestrial and aerial predators. When alarmed, marmots emit a sharp, piercing whistle to alert other members of their colony to scurry to their burrows if the danger persists. Marmots are generally herbivores, feeding on a variety of plants, including grasses, herbs, and shrubs. They hibernate several months a year in order to conserve their energy during the winter.
The marmot is believed to have healing powers and is seen as a symbol of resilience and perseverance, as it is able to survive in harsh environments. Loyal and sensitive, marmots are polite and well-mannered who value balance and happiness above all else. They’re extremely interested in people and are the first to volunteer when help is needed. Kindness is the first priority for a marmot, and no matter how busy they are, they’re always ready to help a friend in need. They usually busy with many acquaintances and activities within their communities. Marmots are good at making their boundaries clear as well as respecting other people’s boundaries. They value their workload just as much as they treasure their down time. Marmots work hard as long as they can see a rewarding vacation coming soon. They’re generally laid back but recognize the invasion of their space. The marmot is unafraid of speaking out for the truth or their beliefs. They are a symbol of intuition, observation, and protection.
