Penguins Live Together Well

Penguins are aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere and are highly adapted to life in the water. They come back to the land for breeding in dense colonies, lay one or two eggs, and take several months to raise their chicks. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, and squid, caught while swimming underwater. Penguins can dive at incredible depth and are extremely sensitive to climate change. Many species of penguin spend most of their lives with large groups of other penguins. They do everything together: eating, swimming, hunting, and nesting.  Incubation of eggs performed by both sexes in all species except the emperor penguin, in which it is done exclusively by the male, and it is begun immediately after egg laying. With the advent of incubation, the bustle and myriad cries that characterized mating give way to quiet and inactivity. Penguins have a unique voice or call that they use to find their mates and chicks in large groups of sometimes a thousand penguins or more.  While male and female emperor penguins are virtually indistinguishable in size, their behavior is distinctive, particularly around mating season.

There are 18–21 species of penguins that live only in the Southern Hemisphere. The majority of species live not in Antarctica but rather between latitudes 45° and 60° S, where they breed on islands. Penguins are highly specialized for their flightless aquatic existence. Their feet are located much farther back than those of other birds, with the result that the bird carries itself mostly upright. Their body plumage consists of very short feathers, which minimize friction and turbulence. Their density of plumage and the layer of air that it retains provide almost complete insulation of the body.

If your power animal is the penguin, you have the ability to create anything and everything you choose in life.  You are precise, resilient, and ambitious. Whether you’re male or female, you’re comfortable with your inner masculine and feminine aspects. You have a remarkable capacity to endure even the harshest of conditions. The penguin knows exactly where they are going and what they are trying to accomplish. The penguin can navigate comfortably between the waking and dreaming worlds. Penguins symbolize the depths of feelings and intuition.
